Year 7 & 8 Indigenous student excursion to Bombaderry Creek

Year 7 and 8 Indigenous students and their friends travelled to Bombaderry Creek National Park to learn about their Indigenous culture from National Park Rangers.

Students walked the trails alongside the creek and learnt about the Dharawal people living in this region, and experienced tasting some of the bush tucker plants, as well seeing the plants used for medicinal purposes.

Rangers shared with the students the emotional heartbreaking stories of some of the children that were removed from their families as young as new borns and taken to the Bombaderry Children's Home. Children lived there until girls were transferred to the Cootamundra Children's home to learn to become domestic servants and the boys were taken to Kempsey Boy's home to learn to become stockman/ farm workers.  A few children were fostered by white families and they tried to assimilate them.  It was very sad to relive these memories.
