The Albion Park High School Support Unit believe that teamwork skills are important as they help you face a number of life's challenges, break down barriers, strengthen your relationships with your family and friends and create respect for different types of personalities, cultures and work styles. Teamwork develops your inter-personal skills and allows you to contribute to the best of your ability. It encourages success in a positive and enthusiastic way and encourages you to maintain a sense of humour and to enjoy what you do. It develops your communication skills in sharing and learning new ideas, accountability and highlights the importance of working together. It encourages self-esteem, mutual trust, understanding and respect.
The way we chose to emphasise the importance of teamwork was by organising a team-building day. This included Laser Tag, team sports and a BBQ lunch together. Laser Tag was the first activity for the day and the students and teachers alike were buzzing with excitement at the opportunity to be a part of a real life computer game. The students prepared themselves by getting their face painted and getting into teams.
Team by team they chose their laser gun and took to the battlefield. Teams thought long and hard about their strategies to win until the whistle blew and off they went, trying to put their plan of attack into action. The games took on a new level of excitement when the students were given a chance to shoot their teachers. The games were closely contested and every team experienced
victory.
Overall it was a very successful day that the students, teachers and teachers¿ aides not only enjoyed but learnt the value of working as a team.
